One of the questions we get asked the most is: “What should my child wear?” Here are our favourite tips to help you choose the perfect outfit.
Keep It Comfortable
The most important thing is that your child feels like themselves. If they’re uncomfortable, itchy, or not able to move freely, it can show in their photos.
Choose clothing they can sit, play, and have fun in ~ because the best smiles usually happen when children are relaxed.
Soft Colours Photograph Beautifully
Our photography style is bright, timeless, and focused on your child, so soft colours always work wonderfully.
Some favourites are:
- Creams and whites
- Soft blues
- Pastel pinks
- Sage greens
- Beige and neutral tones
- Gentle earthy colours
These colours help keep the focus on your little one’s face and personality.
Simple Patterns Work Best
A little texture or pattern can look gorgeous, but try to avoid anything too distracting.
Beautiful options include knitted fabrics, linen textures, small florals, subtle checks, bows, collars, and little details.
Large logos and very busy prints can sometimes draw attention away from your child ~ but there is one very important exception…

There is almost always a Spider-Man at photo day. 
And we absolutely love it.
Whether it’s a superhero shirt, sparkly princess dress, dinosaur jumper, favourite pair of gumboots, or the outfit they proudly picked all by themselves ~ those little choices tell such a big story.
The superhero phase won’t last forever. The favourite colour might change next month. The outfit they refuse to take off every morning will one day become a funny family memory.
So while soft colours and simple outfits photograph beautifully, please don’t feel like photo day has to be “perfect”.

Think About the Details
A few little things can make a big difference:
- Brush hair in the morning
- Pack a spare outfit if your child loves messy play

- Make sure clothing fits well (especially straps and collars)
